Who are the Boy Scouts of America?
Boy Scouts has been an organization in the United States since the early 1900's. The Boy Scouts program teaches a boy self reliance, maturity, and leadership.

Who are the Boy Scouts of United Lutheran Church?
Troop 29, which currently meets at United Lutheran, has been in the south end of Tacoma since 1923! This troop is one of three making up the oldest packs in our state, and the Scouts have achieved great accomplishments over the years. The top rank in Boy Scouting is the rank of Eagle, and this troop has had it's share of Eagle recipients. We were the first troop in Tacoma to hava a blind Eagle recipient (1980s) and few young men from United Lutheran Church have also earned their Eagle rank as well.
The boys of Troop 29 come to us from different cub scout packs in the area, and are encouraged to return and mentor those same packs; it gives the boys the leadership skills they need. Since the younger boys look up to them at these meeting, Scouts are discouraged from using foul language and other vices the boys might pick up from their peers.
Currently, Troop 29 has six boys on the books and three that are active, but that does not stop us from doing a lot of fun things! Each November, the Troop takes two weekends to solicit food from the neighborhhod for a food bank on Portland Avenue, in Tacoma. The boys currently are without a sponsor, and have to pay for any acitvities through fund raising and or donations. Along with thier cub scout duties, we try to have an acitvity each month. It could be Hiking five miles, or Camping for 2-5 days. We also do fun things in the winter such as Go-Cart Racing, Skating, Bowling, and funnest of all- Snow Camping along with Snow Shoeing and Snow Ball Fights! Since acquiring Troop leader Don Salinas, Troop 29 has logged over 200 miles of Hiking, and 3 months of Camping Overnight (not all at the same time)! Of course, the parents play a big part of, and participate in, these activites.

Keep checking back here, as photos of Troop 29 in action will soon be available.
